Winter Wellness
Everyone can use a little help with winter wellness. Often, there’s little sunshine outside and the weather is cold and damp, which can affect one's spirits. This is why it’s important to ensure that students and teachers are following self-care best practices during the winter months. Our Grade 3 and 4 Health and Physical Education students decided to use this opportunity to create “Linden Relaxation Stations,” with the goal of encouraging wellness during the school day.
As part of their yoga lessons in the gym, students created their own yoga poses and published them on cards. Each card came with hand-drawn pictures of yoga poses with instructions on the front, and the goals (such as slow breathing, feeling strong, relaxing one’s mind) on the back. Once the class had made an entire deck of cards, they posted them at three Relaxation Stations spread around the school. Each station has been equipped with yoga cards, a yoga mat, instructions, and a timer. This project encourages students and teachers to use the stations when they need to practice self-care by trying out poses on the yoga cards, meditating, reading, or drawing. They are welcome to use them if they feel nervous, hyper, unfocused, unsettled, or if they just want to feel energized or calm.
Thank you for your innovative wellness leadership, Grade 3 and 4!
