Linden’s Junior Track team shines
By Elizabeth Forbes, Linden Teacher, and Coach
It was a cold and windy day at the SSAF U14 Track and Field Championships on May 10th, but our 18 athletes still brought their spirit, focus, skill and determination to every event they had been training for.
With approximately 28 schools present, the day was full on from the time we arrived until the time we left. Our athletes beautifully represented the sports culture of Linden Nation. Athletes new to Linden Nation competing on their first Linden team were quick to remark on the vast differences in our team approach, athlete goals, coaching style, and commitment to all elements of being an athlete: team spirit, team support, competitor respect and support, and personal goals and responsibilities. They quickly made the link that a deficit in any of these would completely impact self-esteem and the amount of fun. Such sports analysts!
At the end of the long day we had numerous personal bests, lots of breakthrough moments, some hardware, a lot of fun, and a team full of proud and tired athletes.
Congrats to all!
