"Mathematics possesses not only truth, but also supreme beauty."
—Bertrand Russell, Logician and Mathematician

Our Grade 9 students have just completed their Analytic Geometry unit on linear relationships. Their final unit assignment centred around creating a "Stained Glass" design, which involved graphing linear equations in creating colourful designs. The girls used the online graphing calculator Desmos to shape lines with different slopes and y-intercepts, and include parallel and perpendicular lines. Students were creative in selecting the equations that they wanted to graph as well as in choosing colours for their unique stained glass windows.

Applying mathematics principles to create art is a beautiful way to enrich a student's understanding of patterns and relationships.
