Grade 7 students recently participated in a workshop on water issues facing Indigenous communities in Canada. The first part focused on learning about the challenges faced by the Grassy Narrows community as a result of mercury in their water. The second half of the workshop included a hands-on group activity that allowed students to learn more about the challenges of cleaning contaminated water (funding, resources, and time).

This workshop is a component of the science and geography program at Linden and was delivered by Water First, a Canadian charity dedicated to addressing water challenges amongst Indigenous communities. Designed and delivered by Ontario-certified teachers, this workshop provides students with important insights into real-world issues faced by Indigenous communities.
