Service Day at the YWCA
By Soteira Briginshaw, Linden Lead Teacher
Our third annual fall clean-up service day at YWCA 1st Stop Shelter took place on November 2. The shelter provides temporary housing for women and teenage girls who are homeless or unsafe in their own homes. Students in all grades worked together to clean up leaves and bag them during a very rainy day! Despite the dreary weather, spirits were high and we bagged a significant amount of leaves. Moving the full bags to the front of the shelter was also a great muscle-making activity for all!
Thanks to the generosity of the Linden community, we were able to drop off seven bags of donations, including fresh fruits and toiletries. Shelter staff and residents both expressed their gratitude for our work and the donations we provided. We look forward to continuing this tradition again next year!
The event was organized by Grade 1–2, who did a great job announcing the event at our All-School greetings earlier in the week.
