Grade 6s Raise Their Voices
By Savannah Barker, Grade 6 teacher
After studying different kinds of poetry in class, the Grade 6 students wrote and performed their own spoken word pieces. Each student chose a global issue that they felt passionately about and exercised their creativity and bravery to raise their voice to educate and advocate for change. Students explored such difficult subjects as climate change, COVID-19 physical distancing, homophobia, and racism.
One student was able to share her piece with MPP Jill Andrew during the Zoom meeting she held with THE Club (read about it here), and we think all these performances should be heard. Join these amazing students and listen to their work, and perhaps you will be motivated to create your own poem!
