Early Learners Get a Bird’s Eye View of the Redevelopment Project
STEM Teacher Beth Alexander found a wonderful way to make the best of having construction next door: incorporating it into the Early Learners’ CERES class with a special visitor. Victor Martins is the site foreman for GFL, the company that is carrying out the demolition, and he was more than happy to answer the Early Learners’ many questions!
From up on Linden’s rooftop playground, students got a bird's eye view of the redevelopment project, and all of the big cranes and dump trucks, while Victor shared the blueprints and plans to help bring the project to life.
The Early Learners peppered Victor with questions, including “Why are the materials being put into piles?” Victor explained that this allows the different materials to be recycled. They also wondered “Why is there so much black dirt?” According to Victor, the earth was piled under the buildings before they were built so they’d be at the right height relative to the street.
We look forward to future opportunities for collaboration.
