Celebrating Engineer's Day at Linden!
By Beth Alexander, Curriculum Lead
We celebrated Engineer's Day during our weekly All-School gathering on April 12, 2018. Beginning with a short presentation about the importance of engineering in human health and safety around the world, families were introduced to a challenge: to combine structural, electrical, and mechanical engineering to create a device designed to transport a marble. Each family also made a short presentation about a woman in engineering, such as Chien-Shiung Wu, a nuclear engineer who worked on the Manhattan Project, and Stephanie Kwolek, the inventor of Kevlar. We also acknowledged the work of countless people who have contributed to the field of engineering but who may not be known by name, including many women, girls, and other marginalized people throughout history.
