Braille Typography Workshop
By Sang Lee, STEM Teacher
During Week Without Walls, Linden's Grades 9–11 students made their way to the Design Exchange Museum to attend a Braille Typography workshop. They worked hard to create their own font with the 7 universal principles of design in mind, which include equitable use and intuitive use. The students were able to produce amazing fonts that were braille compatible, which meant that there was no need to create separate braille equivalents for the fonts. The key was to ensure the braille bumps were within each letter.
This was a workshop that required student critical thinking and creativity and truly encompassed STEAM learning. Please take a look at the "Edie" font below, which was created by one of our students!
