Graduation

Our graduation ceremony, which takes place at our annual Celebration to Greet the Summer, is unique in many ways. However, two things make this tradition especially remarkable. The first is that graduates are crowned with laurels of linden leaves by Linden alumnae, who travel back to Toronto from all over the world to take part in this special ceremony. The second is that we do not have a single valedictorian representing the voice of the class. Instead, just as each girl speaks in front of the community on her first day at Linden, each graduate gets the opportunity to use her voice by making a valdedictory address. Every speech is different, but they are all meaningful, both to the graduating class and to the larger Linden community.

After Graduation

The Linden School's graduates have enjoyed remarkable success. Since the founding daughters finished Grade 13 in 1998, each graduate has been accepted into the programme or university of her choice. Members of Linden's graduating classes have been accepted in top Canadian universties, and into programmes in Science, Engineering, Business, and the Humanities. Our students are routinely offered both entrance and renewable scholarships. We count a U of T Arbour Scholarship winner among our graduates as well as a 4-year scholarship winner to McGill.

Here are some of the many post-secondary institutions Linden students have attended for undergraduate and post-graduate studies:

Canadian Universities:
  • Queen's University
  • University of Toronto
  • University of Western Ontario

Life after School: What are our grads up to now?

Since they graduated from The Linden School life has taken our alumnae down a wide variety of career paths - and all over the globe.

Gillian Gardhouse ('04) recently graduated from Queen's University's Applied Sciences programme, and is now working as a geological engineer for Kinross Gold - in Chile! To hear about her experiences working in South America, click here.

Andrea Brent ('98), one of our first graduates, created a career that allows her to fully explore her love of art - she owns and operates her own jewelry business, Covet Originals. To read about her journey to entrepreneurial success, click here.

In the summer of 2009, Emma Warnken Johnson (04) took a break from her master's dissertation and headed to Romania to participate in an archeological dig. For her perspective on the life of an archeologist, click here

In her second year at the University of Waterloo, Kyrie Vala-Webb ('08) had a "Linden Moment" that ended with her co-creating several changes to the university's computer science curriculum. To read about how she made this Linden Moment happen, click here.

This spring and summer, Tara Moayed ('05) took a break from her Master's degree and headed to Hungary for a four-month internship with the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR). Once there, she found herself teaching photography, mounting a photo exhibition and challenging her assumptions about refugees.
