Dramatic Happenings - March 16, 2010
During the week of March 8, Linden students
in grades 5-8 shared their dramatic talents with friends,
family and faculty - in two languages.
At Junior Drama Night on Tuesday, March
9, girls in grades 5-6 performed The Thirteen Clocks,
a play by James Thurber in which a heroic prince battles an
evil duke who claims he has forever stopped time. They are
both fighting for the hand of Princess Saralinda, but neither
is prepared for the obstacles they'll face along the way.
On Thursday, March 11, it was time for our
grade 7 and 8 students to take the stage for Junior French
Drama Night. Our two grade 7 classes performed their adaptations
of famous fairy tales, while our grade 8 classes creatively
presented their projects on francophone countries throughout
the world.

A Spirited End to Spirit Week - March 15,
2010
On Friday, March 12, we wrapped up a wonderful
Spirit Week at Linden with our annual Awards Ceremony and
Carnival.
The Awards Ceremony began with a final battle
between Charlie Chaplin and Darth Vader, who had been squaring
off with our movie heroes all week. Charlie Chaplin defeated
the evil Vader, the presenting of awards could begin!
Our grade 12 hosts presented two awards
for best costume for the primary, junior and senior grades,
as well as for faculty members. Each class also received a
Spirit Award (individually crafted and personalized by the
grade 12s), with awards given ranging from "Most Spirited
Lip Sync" to "Most Enthusiastic".
Once the awards were given out (and each
class had a chance to pose with their statuette on the red
carpet), the Carnival could begin! This event, organized every
year by our grade 11 students, gave students and faculty the
opportunity to sign their name on the "Walk of Fame",
get their picture taken under a "Welcome to Hollywood"
sign and try their hand at "Star Toss", a variation
on ring toss.
After a great week, we're already looking
forward to next year!

Sing Along If You Know the Words - March
12, 2010
As is Spirit Week tradition at Linden, Thursday
was lip sync day! Each class choreographed and performed a
routine to present for the entire school during the second
half of lunch period. After each routine, our grade 12 hosts
offered scores out of five. (The evil Darth Vader, seen below,
was initially quite stingy with his scores, but was soon won
over by the enthusiasm and spirit of our students.)
Thursday was also the day for girls to dress
up as their favourite movie genre. This abstract theme was
slightly more difficult than the week's previous themes, but
our students certainly rose to the challenge, representing
genres from comedy to romance to French new wave.

festivities:
